Alone on the Divide: Cycling from Jackson Hole to Boulder, CO
By Timothy Albinson
500+ miles. Four days. One rider. Cycling solo from Jackson Hole to Boulder isn’t just a ride it’s a reckoning. With the Tetons fading behind me, I pedaled south through Idaho and Utah, carrying everything I needed on a gravel bike and chasing something I couldn’t quite name.
Each day brought towering passes, weather that turned in minutes, and stretches of road where the only sound was my own breath. I slept once in a tent, once in a roadside motel, and once not at all riding straight through a moonlit night in northern Utah, wrapped in every layer I had, chasing the glow of my headlamp over the Continental Divide.
When I finally rolled into Boulder, wrecked and raw, I didn’t feel triumphant I felt transformed. Out there, alone with the wind and my thoughts, I found something that doesn’t fit in words or photos.
Ride the Divide solo, and the miles will leave a mark. Not on your bike, but on your soul.
