Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon (BLE) Beacon is a wireless personal area network technology aimed at novel applications in the healthcare, fitness, beacons, security, and home entertainment industries among others. With very low power consumption and lower manufacturing costs compared to Classic Bluetooth, BLE has become widespread in the Internet of Things era.

The development of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon can be traced back to 2006 when the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) started work on adding a low power mode to the Classic Bluetooth Core Specification. This was driven by the need for reducing energy usage in gadgets that required wireless data exchange over long periods. After over five years of work, the first BLE specification - Bluetooth Core Specification Version 4.0 - was released in 2010. Since then, BLE has seen continuous improvements through subsequent specification releases to support additional features and use cases.
