Anti-Venom: The Unsung Hero in the Battle against Venomous Animal Bites

Comments · 42 Views

Snake venom is a fairly complex mixture of proteins, oligopeptides and venom peptides that are delivered through fangs or grooved teeth. Venom varies a lot between species, both in composition and function

Anti-venom s, also known as antivenins or antivenenes, are complex biomedical products composed of antibodies that neutralize the effects of animal venom. They are designed to bind to venom proteins and toxins so they cannot interact with receptors in the body and cause harm.

The production of Anti-Venom is a complex multi-step biological process. Horses or sheep are first immunized against venom through repeated non-lethal injections over time. This trains their immune systems to produce antibodies specifically targeting venom proteins. Once high antibody titers against the venom are established, blood is collected from the immunized animal. The antibody-rich serum is separated and further processed. Purification removes non-antibody plasma proteins while enrichment concentrates the antibodies. The purified product is then tested for safety, potency, and sterility before being packaged as the anti-venom therapeutic.
