FFXIV: How to Unlock Desynthesis (& How It Works)

Having one's inventory or storage cluttered with unused FFXIV Gil equipment can become an inconvenience in Final Fantasy XIV, but by using Desynthesis, players can earn both Gil and crafting resources. Desynthesis is a special Action that allows players to recover materials, Demimateria, and crystals from items. Such items include weapons, tools, armor, accessories, furniture, and even fish. Fans can take the resources extracted from Desynthesis and either sell them for Gil at the FFXIV Market Board or craft a different item. This process allows crafting materials to flow through the player economy and provides the player with a moderate source of income.

While the resources obtained from Desynthesis are somewhat random, players will always acquire materials related to the item. For example, if a piece of armor can be crafted using a Steel Ingot, there's a very high chance that desynthesizing the armor will produce a Steel ingot. FFXIV Desynthesis also has its own leveling system, separate from crafting job levels. For example, while a player may be a Level 42 Weaver, their Desynthesis level for Weaver may differ, depending on how often they desynth Weaver-related clothing in FFXIV.

Desynthesis is not available from the start of the game but is instead unlocked by completing a side quest called "Gone to Pieces." The quest giver, Syntgoht, can be found along with the Sapphire Avenue Exchange in Ul'dah at X: 14.0 Y: 10.0. However, FFXIV players will first need to reach Level 30 with any crafting job to accept the quest. Those who have yet to become acquainted with the Disciples of the Hand can attain Level 30 rather quickly by completing Tradecraft Leves in Ul'dah, Gridania, or Limsa Lominsa. By purchasing cheap HQ or High-Quality items from the FFXIV Market Board, FFXIV players can earn sufficient XP for their desired job within no time.

How to Use Desynthesis in Final Fantasy XIV.

Once players have reached Level 30 as a crafter and completed the short quest "Gone to Pieces," they can now use Desynthesis. However, there are a few limitations that are important to note. First, players must be Level 30 of a particular crafting job to desynth an item connected to that job, meaning players must be a Level 30 Blacksmith to disassemble swords of Level 30 and below. Additionally, players should make sure the Item Level of the equipment they are trying to desynth isn't too much higher than their Desynthesis level, as this will cause the chance to obtain HQ resources much lower.

To use Desynthesis equipment in FFXIV, players can open the Final Fantasy XIV Gil info window of any item to see if they can desynth it. If the option isn't grayed out, they continue with its disassembly. As mentioned previously, the more the player desynthesizes items, the faster they will level, increasing the chance to receive HQ resources for selling or crafting.
