The UK Standard for professional engineering competence or UK-SPEC that explains different requirements of people have to meet for becoming a registered, chartered engineer, or, incorporated engineer, or Engineering Technician.

The UK Standard for professional engineering competence or UK-SPEC that explains different requirements of people have to meet for becoming a registered, chartered engineer, or, incorporated engineer, or Engineering Technician. It also includes examples of different activities which demonstrate the required competence and commitment.

For each title registration, it needs a demonstration of five broad areas of different competence and commitments.

  1. Understanding and Knowledge gaining.
  2. Development, design, and solving various engineering problems.
  3. Responsibilities, leadership, and management.
  4. Different interpersonal skills and Communication.
  5. Development of different professional commitments.

The areas in the above are setting out separately for every title and constitute of the standards.

 

Since its beginning in the year 2003, Uk-spec becomes a well-appreciated and internationally recognized assessment. 

Attaining a Chartered Engineer (CEng) qualification means you have attained a protected title, and have global brand recognition and a benchmark. To get a designation as a Chartered Engineer you need to show apart from engineering education on a professional level or equivalent Uk standard for professional engineering competence training and experience, show major technical (design competencies) and management and commercial leadership competencies.

To get yourself registered as a Chartered Engineer you need to show that you are professionally capable by using professional and educational practice.  You also need to show an appropriate level of professional competency for the practice. You can do so by doing professional and personal development.
