The most important Swiss manufactures are located throughout the Swiss country. It is true that there are regions that, due to their characteristics, bring together a large number of manufactures, some brands prefer to work isolated in remote places in Switzerland. In any case, there is no self-respecting manufacturer that does not have a headquarters in the Swiss country, which is a place of research and development, but also a space to remember and publicize the history of the brand.

This week we review the main Swiss manufacturers and their location.

Rolex

Rolex has four different locations scattered throughout Switzerland. According to the brand itself, more than 6,000 professionals work at its 4 locations, organized into specialized teams.

Rolex's headquarters are in Geneva, one of the country's main cities. In Geneva, the brand has management, research, creation and communication buildings. In this Swiss city, Rolex has a second headquarters where it manufactures its cases and bracelets.

Rolex movements are made in Bienne, while setting and goldsmithing are carried out in Chêne-bourg, a small town near Geneva.

Rolex has chosen to divide its production into different locations, however, all of them are very close, around the city of Geneva.

Omega

Omega is brand new, and this year it has opened a new headquarters in Bienne, very close to the place where Rolex Swiss Luxury Watches Manufacturer its movements.

Bienne is a Swiss city belonging to the canton of Bern, in the northwest of the country, with an extensive watchmaking tradition.

Actually it is not a move, because Omega settled precisely in Bienne in 1882, and therefore has been part of the Swiss city for more than a century, however, the brand created a space of much more innovative work, and prepared to house a 21st century manufacturing, although heir to the tradition of previous centuries.

Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet is a manufacture linked to Le Brassus. This city is on the border, it is located between Switzerland and France in the heart of the Joux Valley, as we will see, an area with a long watchmaking tradition.

Audemars Piguet arrived in Le Brassus in 1875, almost 150 years later it continues to create each of its watch pieces at its manufacturing headquarters.

One of the characteristics of Audemars Piguet is that it is one of the few high-end manufacturers that is still in the hands of the founding family, this makes AP maintain the essence of its origins, including the location of its headquarters in Le Brassus.

Tag Heuer

TAG has all its manufacturing in La Chaux-de-Fonds, although spread over four different locations.

This city belonging to the canton of Neuchatêl therefore hosts all the necessary manufacturing to create all the TAG Heuer that are manufactured. TAG counts among its historical milestones the first chronograph capable of measuring hundredths, this mechanical prodigy was already created at its headquarters in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1916.

IWC

If there is a Swiss manufacturer that wears a gala, the place where it works is IWC. This brand includes in its official name the place where it operates from its origin, the Swiss city of Schaffhausen.

Many of the Swiss watchmaking headquarters are in the west, very close to the French border, however, IWC is located in the north, next to the German border.

This small municipality has only 35,400 inhabitants, its impressive landscapes are crossed by the Rhine, and on its outskirts you can visit the IWC headquarters.

The IWC headquarters has 13,500 m2 where 400 people work. It is a contemporary building, away from the design of the old factory. In this building on the outskirts of Schaffhausen the movements and cash registers are completed, while the assembly of the secondary headquarters, located in the city center of Schaffhausen.

Jaeger LeCoultre

Jaeger has its headquarters in the heart of the Joux valley, in Le Sentier, very close to the Jura mountain range. Designers and artisans work in a shared space, in fact the entire manufacture is located in a single building, from which some 1,200 calibers have come out since 1833.

Jaeger Le Coultre is one of the few manufacturers that centralizes all its production in a single building, an impressive construction at the foot of the Alps.

In Switzerland there are several watchmaking areas such as the Joux Valley or Geneva, where in addition to Rolex, Patek Philippe also works.

Another of the watchmaking regions par excellence is Le Locle, a municipality located in the canton of Neuchatêl. This city of just 10,000 inhabitants is home to brands such as Tissot (which has a mechanical watch called Le Locle, developed to celebrate the brand's 160th anniversary), Ulysse Nardin, Mido and Zenith.

The importance of the headquarters for a watch manufacture

The main characteristic of a watchmaking house is its tradition. Each manufacture keeps its history and its milestones based on its own tradition, the headquarters is the place where the brand treasures its own heritage.

Watch brands are closely linked to the place where they are manufactured. Switzerland has different areas in which, historically, companies related to watchmaking have settled, Watches Manufacturers are part of its landscape and culture.
