Albums
Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to the release of original music, Toto has also done work with other artists and on soundtracks for films. The group has won a number of Grammy Awards for their work.
Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. The collaboration led to the formation of Toto in 1976.
Turn Back, Toto's third studio album, was criticized by critics due to the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group The band held auditions for the new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by going through several old demos and tapes to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was well received by fans and the band went on a tour that featured former members Bobby Kimball, Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar departed from the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set called Falling in Between, which included recordings from the tour and an interview with the band.
