In this blog, we will explore SMRT trains unveiled the display of Singapore's longest hand-drawn art mural at the Tanjong MRT stations for public display at large. 

Unveiling Singapore's Longest Hand-Drawn Art Mural at MRT Station

For quite some time, SMRT has been an integral part of the Communities in Station program, which aims to strengthen affinity with people and communities. As part of this initiative, SMRT encourages artists to create their artwork at MRT stations and has recently unveiled the longest hand-drawn historical art mural at Tanjong MRT Station, enriching the daily travel experience for all commuters. In collaboration with Tanjong Pagar Community Club (TPCC) and Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru Grassroots Organizations (GROs), SMRT inaugurated the showcase of hand-drawn local artwork, which is now on public display at the MRT train station.

The said hand-drawn artwork is done by a local artist called Ng Peng Sing and the artwork measures around 67 meters in length and 1.7 meters in height. The artwork depicts the interesting way several events, prominent figures, dates, sites, and other key things of Singapore's history from a rural backwater to colonial times, specifically during the British and World War II. It even depicts Sinagpore's journey towards independence and rapid development through the years to catch the widespread attention of commuters. 

Inaugurated by Minister in the Prime Minister's Office

To inaugurate such an interesting and historical-looking artwork at the MRT station, a special invitation was given to the Guest of Honor, Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance, and the Second Minister for National Development. Not only this, the Guest of Honor is also a member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency.

Speaking on such a historical event, Mr. Ngien Hoon Ping, SMRT's CEO, has to say something, ' We are delighted to unveil Singapore on Canvas that depicts the mesmerizing history of Singapore, its struggle, and overall development through artwork. We are even honored to see the SMRT's presence on the canvas that showcased one of the development pillars of the country'.
