A self-defense baton is an object used as a martial arts implement for striking an opponent, defending against someone trying to grab you, or as a weapon for protection. It consists of a metal or hard plastic rod connected by flexible tubing to two hand grips. It's typically about four feet long and weighs between 2 and 8 pounds.

There are many types of a self defense baton, usually classified according to their length into three groups: club, cane, and staff batons. Most clubs are designed for close combat such as fighting in confined spaces like hallways or stairwells. Short cane batons are a little easier to handle, but they're considerably more difficult to conceal.

Staff and canes are typically used for personal defense in open areas, like streets or parks. They are generally longer than club batons, which allows you to strike attackers at greater distances. Using a staff or cane also gives you the advantage of longer range over an opponent armed with a short club or some cool knives.

Many types of defensive batons are designed for fighting multiple opponents. The number and length of their blades make them especially well-suited for this purpose. Some batons have grooves along their shafts that allow you to break them into smaller weapons if necessary easily.
