3 Weight Loss Oats Recipes For Indians
Here are some dietitian-recommended oats recipes with Indian flavors that fit perfectly into a weight-loss diet:
1. Oats Idli
A healthy twist on the traditional South Indian dish, these idlis are low in fat and rich in fibre and nutrients. The combination of oats and semolina creates a light texture, while spices enhance digestion.
Ingredients:
1 cup oats
½ cup semolina
2 tbsp oil
¼ tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp cumin seeds
1 ½ tsp urad dal
1 tsp fruit salt
1-inch ginger
8 to 10 cashews
Salt to taste
Few curry leaves
Instructions:
Grind oats into a coarse powder.
Fry cashews in oil until golden brown. Set aside.
In the same pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and asafoetida.
Add chopped green chillies, ginger, curry leaves, and sauté for a minute.
Stir in semolina and fry until golden yellow.
Add powdered oats, cook briefly, then let cool.
Mix with water and curd, let sit for 10 minutes.
Grease idli moulds, place a cashew in each, and fill with batter.
Add fruit salt and mix well.
Steam for 10-15 minutes.
Serve with chutney.

2. Oats And Egg Omelette
A protein-packed breakfast that keeps you full and energized. The fibre from oats aids digestion, while eggs provide muscle-supporting protein.
Ingredients:
2 eggs
¼ cup oats flour
3-4 tbsp milk
2 tbsp oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small carrot, grated
1 small capsicum
2 green chilies
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp oregano & mixed herbs
¼ tsp black pepper
Few coriander leaves
Instructions:
Mix oats flour, turmeric, salt, black pepper, and oregano.
Add milk, stirring until smooth.
Beat eggs into the mixture until fluffy.
Stir in chopped vegetables.
Heat oil in a pan, pour in batter, and cook for 3-4 minutes per side.
Serve hot.

3. Oats Khichdi
A fibre- and protein-rich meal that keeps you full longer and reduces snacking.
Ingredients:
½ cup oats
½ cup mixed dals (soaked 1 hour)
1-inch ginger
3-4 garlic cloves
2 green chilies
1 small potato, cubed
1 tomato
1 onion
4-5 peas pods
1 small capsicum
2-4 beans
½ tsp ghee
¼ tsp hing
½ tsp turmeric
1 bay leaf
2-4 green cardamoms
1-inch cinnamon
2 cloves
1 tsp cumin
Salt & black pepper to taste
Water as needed
Instructions:
Heat ghee, add spices and stir well.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.
Add vegetables and mix well.
Drain soaked dals, add to cooker.
Stir in oats, mix well, and add water.
Pressure cook for 5-7 whistles.
Let pressure release, then serve garnished with coriander leaves.
